Our History

eMatters commenced development in 1998, processing the very first eCommerce transaction in Australia with the National Australia Bank in 1999. Since that very first transaction, eMatters has added every eCommerce enabled bank in Australia as a partner. Then, eMatters expanded to New Zealand.
Initially, eMatters commenced procesisng just realtime, online payments, then saw the potential for many add-on products to enhance our merchant's, and their customer's experience. A quick look into our history finds the following milestones:-

2010
  • Enhanced DDR now provides for auto-XML updating of responses back to your own database.
2009
  • Automatic Voucher Creation, enables all Merchants to create and manage their own Pre-Paid Vouchers
  • iPhone Module released, giving merchants the ability to process and manage their online payments even when out of their office.
2008
  • BillSmart providing realtime database updates based on customer search
  • eMatters BlackList allowing blocking of user-defined criteria. Helping to reduce fraud
  • eMatters Vouchers made available for all Merchants
  • eMatters Consulting launched in order to meet the demand for business process analysis and re-design.
  • Pay By Phone enhanced to initiate remote database updates.
2007
  • 1300 Pay By Phone system enhanced to include MultiBank fallback protection
  • eMatters fully integrates with BPAY, providing seemless reconciliation with most accounting packages.
2006
  • Added support for Internet-enabled phone and PDAs
  • Integrated PDF Invoices and Emails on demand
  • Integrated with leading POS provider
  • Enhanced VeriFone terminals to include Multi-Application software, including loyalty cards
2005
  • Developed Direct Debit payment module
  • Developed 2-way SMS to handle incoming payment requests
  • Added VeriFone GPRS Terminals to our range of products
  • Purchased a Melbourne-based payment gateway
  • 3D Secure removed from our standard inclusions due to low consumer awareness
  • Developed a wholesale gateway to allow other payment gateways to use the eMatters technology to reach the banking network
2004
  • Added support for Inline Card Readers
  • Added automatic search function using XML
  • First transaction processed with direct host-to-host connection with NZ banks
  • Developed SMS Payee Authentication module
  • Developed VIrtual Terminal Enterprise Edition
  • Chris Dwyer releases book "Selling Snake Oil at Lightspeed", detailing the current trends in eCommerce Fraud.
2003
  • First transaction under the Verified by Visa (3D Secure) scheme processed with StGeorge
  • XML added as an integration method
  • Implemented NAB MultiCurrency for 200+ global currencies
2002
  • WAP Payment Module released
  • ANZ, CBA and Westpac become eMatters Certified
  • eMatters introduces "eCommerce Fraud Insurance" to the Australian market
2001
  • Developed Payment System for Palm Pilot
  • Automatic Recurring Credit Cards
  • First Pay-By-SMS transaction processed with NAB

2000
  • StGeorge & Bank SA become eMatters Certified
  • Virtual Terminal for Manual Payments
